तथेति च स राजानमुक्त्वा वेदविदां वरः।
स्वयं वसिष्ठो भगवान्ययौ रामनिवेशनम्॥
उपवासयितुं रामं मन्त्रवन्मन्त्रकोविदः।
ब्राह्मं रथवरं युक्तमास्थाय सुदृढव्रतः॥
tatheti ca sa rājānam uktvā vedavidāṁ varaḥ
svayaṁ vasiṣṭho bhagavān yayau rāma-niveśanam
upavāsayituṁ rāmaṁ mantravan mantra-kovidaḥ
brāhmaṁ ratha-varaṁ yuktam āsthāya sudṛḍha-vrataḥ
tathā iti ca = “Alright”; saḥ = the; rājānam = the king; uktvā = told and then; vedavidām = of the knowers of the Veda; varaḥ = best; svayam = personally; vasiṣṭhaḥ = sage Vasiṣṭha; bhagavān = the powerful; yayau = departed; rāma-niveśanam = for Rāma’s residence; upavāsayitum = to make observe the vow of fasting; rāmam = Rāma; mantravat = with the required mantras; mantra-kovidaḥ = that expert on mantras; brāhmam = fit for brāhmaṇas; ratha-varam = on an excellent chariot; yuktam = and yoked with horses; āsthāya = got; sudṛḍha-vrataḥ = who was very firm in his vows.
The best of the knowers of the Veda, the powerful sage Vasiṣṭha, told the king, “Alright” and then personally departed for Rāma’s residence to make Rāma observe the vow of fasting with the required mantras. That expert on mantras who was very firm in his vows got on an excellent chariot fit for brāhmaṇas and yoked with horses.
स रामभवनं प्राप्य पाण्डुराभ्रघनप्रभम्।
तिस्रः कक्ष्या रथेनैव विवेश मुनिसत्तमः॥
