Chapter 5: Vasiṣṭha Prepares Rāma for the Coronation
Text 2.5.18
सिक्तसम्मृष्टरथ्या हि तद् अहर्वनमालिनी।
आसीदयोध्या नगरी समुच्छ्रितगृहध्वजा॥
sikta-sammṛṣṭa-rathyā hi tad ahar vana-mālinī
āsīd ayodhyā nagarī samucchrita-gṛha-dhvajā
sikta-sammṛṣṭa-rathyā hi = roads sprinkled with water and swept; tat-ahar = that day; vana-mālinī = lined up with trees [on either side]; āsīt = were; ayodhyā = Ayodhyā; nagarī = city’s; samucchrita-gṛha-dhvajā = houses had flags on top of them.
That day Ayodhyā city’s roads, lined up with trees [on either side], were sprinkled with water and swept. Houses had flags on top of them.
There were betel-nut, banana trees and so on.
