Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 5: Vasiṣṭha Prepares Rāma for the Coronation
Text 2.5.19

तदा ह्ययोध्यानिलयः सस्त्रीबालाबलो जनः।
रामाभिषेकमाकाङ्क्षन्नाकाङ्क्षदुदयं रवेः॥

tadā hy ayodhyā-nilayaḥ sa-strī-bālābalo janaḥ
rāmābhiṣekam ākāṅkṣann ākāṅkṣad udayaṁ raveḥ

tadā hi = then; ayodhyā-nilayaḥ = residing in Ayodhyā; sa-strī-bāla-abalaḥ = including women, children and the old; janaḥ = the people; rāma-abhiṣekam = for Rāma’s coronation; ākāṅkṣan = while waiting; ākāṅkṣat = waited; udayam raveḥ = for sunrise.

Then, the people residing in Ayodhyā, including women, children and the old, waited for sunrise while waiting for Rāma’s coronation.

Abala here refers to the old, who waited for Rāma’s coronation, [despite] their lack of strength.

When the news that Rāma would be coronated the next day spread, out of great regard for His coronation, giving up eating, sleeping and so on, the people hankered for the sunrise [so that they could see Rāma’s coronation].
