Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.41
उरस्तेऽभिनिविष्टं वै यावत्स्कन्धात्समुन्नतम्।
अधस्ताच्चोदेरं शातं सुनाभमिव लज्जितम्॥
uras te ’bhiniviṣṭaṁ vai yāvat skandhāt samunnatam
adhastāc codaraṁ śātaṁ sunābham iva lajjitam
uraḥ = chest; te = your; abhiniviṣṭam vai = competing; yāvat = up to them; skandhāt = with your shoulders; samunnatam = reaches; adhastāt ca = lower than your chest; udaram = is your belly; śātam = and thin; sunābham = it has a beautiful navel; iva = and is as if; lajjitam = ashamed.
Your chest, competing with your shoulders, reaches up to them. Lower than your chest is your belly. It has a beautiful navel and is as if ashamed and thin.
The statement that Mantharā’s chest reaches up to her shoulders is an utprekṣā, [that is, it is not to be taken literally].
