Chapter 10: Daśaratha Meets Kaikeyī
Text 2.10.5
अथ सामर्षिता देवी सम्यकृत्वा विनिश्चयम्।
संविवेशाबला भूमौ निवेश्य भ्रुकुटीं मुखे॥
atha sāmarṣitā devī samyak kṛtvā viniścayam
saṁviveśābalā bhūmau niveśya bhru-kuṭīṁ mukhe
atha = then; sā = the; amarṣitā = an angry; devī = queen; samyak = firmly; kṛtvā viniścayam = having concluded; saṁviveśa = lay; abalā = woman; bhūmau = on the ground; niveśya = contracting; bhru-kuṭīm mukhe = her eyebrows.
Having firmly concluded, the queen, an angry woman, then lay on the ground contracting her eyebrows.
1 Previously the author mentioned that she lay on the ground without mentioning the specific details. Therefore this verse is not redundant.
The author has again stated that she lay on the ground to specifically point out that she expressed her fury by contracting her eyebrows, throwing away her necklaces and ornaments and so on.1 Contracting one’s eyebrows is a way of expressing one’s anger.
