अद्य रामाभिषेको वै प्रसिद्ध इति जज्ञिवान्।
प्रियार्हां प्रियमाख्यातुं विवेशान्तःपुरं वशी॥
adya rāmābhiṣeko vai prasiddha iti jajñivān
priyārhāṁ priyam ākhyātuṁ viveśāntaḥ-puraṁ vaśī
adya = it was at that time that; rāma-abhiṣekaḥ = Rāma’s coronation; vai = only; prasiddhaḥ = became well known; iti = that; jajñivān = he knew; priya-arhām = to his wife who deserved to hear that pleasant news; priyam = the pleasant news; ākhyātum = to tell; viveśa = entered; antaḥ-puram = the inner quarters; vaśī = [therefore] the independent king.
He knew that it was only at that time that Rāma’s coronation became well known. [Therefore] that independent king entered the inner quarters to tell the pleasant news to his wife who deserved to hear that pleasant news.
1 Even though Daśaratha had initiated the process of preparing for Rāma’s coronation since the previous day, he had finalized only then and there, just before he left his assembly to go to his residence, that he had concluded that everything was firmly in place to coronate Rāma. And it was only then that he wanted to inform his beloved wife Kaikeyī about it, when everything had been arranged to ensure that the coronation will certainly take place.
1 He didn’t inform her through some messengers. Because he was independent, he could decide whom to personally share this information with.
Daśaratha knew that it was only at that time [that is, before he departed to his inner quarters, that] Rāma’s coronation became well known. [Therefore,] he knew that Kaikeyī had no opportunity so far to know about it.1 As the independent king, he personally went to his inner quarters to inform Kaikeyī of this good news.2
