Chapter 10: Daśaratha Meets Kaikeyī
Text 2.10.11
स कैकेय्या गृहं श्रेष्ठं प्रविवेश महायशाः।
पाण्डुराभ्रमिवाकाशं राहुयुक्तं निशाकरः॥
sa kaikeyyā gṛhaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ praviveśa mahā-yaśāḥ
pāṇḍurābhram ivākāśaṁ rāhu-yuktaṁ niśākaraḥ
saḥ = Daśaratha; kaikeyyāḥ = of Kaikeyī; gṛham = home; śreṣṭham = the excellent; praviveśa = entered; mahā-yaśāḥ = of great fame; pāṇḍura-abhram = filled with white clouds; iva = just as; ākāśam = in the sky; rāhu-yuktam = is eclipsed by Rāhu; niśākaraḥ = the moon.
Daśaratha of great fame entered the excellent home of Kaikeyī just as the moon is eclipsed by Rāhu in the sky.
Because the house belonged to Kaikeyī who would obstruct Daśaratha’s purposes, [the house is compared to] the white sky engulfed by Rāhu.
