Chapter 10: Daśaratha Meets Kaikeyī
Text 2.10.27
परिमृश्य च पाणिभ्यामभिसन्त्रस्तचेतनः।
कामी कमलपत्राक्षीमुवाच वनितामिदम्॥
parimṛśya ca pāṇibhyām abhisantrasta-cetanaḥ
kāmī kamala-patrākṣīm uvāca vanitām idam
parimṛśya ca = held and; pāṇibhyām = with his hands; abhisantrasta-cetanaḥ = his intelligence alarmed; kāmī = the enamored Daśaratha; kamala-patra-akṣīm = whose eyes resembled the petals of a lotus; uvāca = spoke to her; vanitām = his beloved wife; idam = as follows.
His intelligence alarmed, the enamored Daśaratha held his beloved wife, whose eyes resembled the petals of a lotus, with his hands and spoke to her as follows.
Daśaratha was frightened while wondering, “Does she want wealth? Or, is she seized with a sickness? Or is she angry [at someone]?” Kaikeyī has been described as having eyes that resembled the petals of a lotus to point out that Daśaratha was enamored by her [beauty].
