Chapter 11: Kaikeyī Demands two Boons
Text 2.11.9
भद्रे हृदयमप्येतदनुमृश्योद्धरस्व मे।
एतत्समीक्ष्य कैकेयि ब्रूहि यत्साधु मन्यसे॥
bhadre hṛdayam apy etad anumṛśyoddharasva me
etat samīkṣya kaikeyi brūhi yat sādhu manyase
bhadre = O gentle one; hṛdayam api = heart; etat = to be of such nature; anumṛśya = considering; uddharasva = rejuvenate [me]; me = my; etat = that my words and thoughts are one; samīkṣya = considering; kaikeyi = Kaikeyī; brūhi = tell me; yat = what; sādhu manyase = you desire.
O gentle one, considering my heart to be of such nature, rejuvenate [me]. Kaikeyī, considering that my words and thoughts are one, tell me what you desire.
Daśaratha’s heart was of the nature of adherence to his promises. He wanted to impress upon Kaikeyī that his life was just for making her happy and that he would not live if he was unable to do that.
