Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.60

विरमैतेन भावेन त्वमेतेनानृतेन वा।
यदि भर्तुः प्रियं कार्यं लोकस्य भरतस्य च॥

viramaitena bhāvena tvam etenānṛtena vā
yadi bhartuḥ priyaṁ kāryaṁ lokasya bharatasya ca

virama = don’t pursue; etena = the; bhāvena = idea of enthroning Bharata; tvam1 etena = the; anṛtena = misconceived idea of banishing Rāma; = or; yadi = if; bhartuḥ = your husband; priyam = that which pleases; kāryam = you want to do; lokasya = the people; bharatasya = Bharata; ca = and.


 

Don’t pursue the idea of enthroning Bharata or the misconceived idea of banishing Rāma, if you want to do that which pleases your husband, the people and Bharata.

GLOSS. Bhāvena and anṛtena indicate that Kaikeyī should give up her intention of opposing Lord Hari who is also known as Ṛta [by banishing Him to the forest].
