न कथञ्चिदृते रामाद्भरतो राज्यमावसेत्।
रामादपि हि तं मन्ये धर्मतो बलवत्तरम्॥
na kathañcid ṛte rāmād bharato rājyam āvaset
rāmād api hi taṁ manye dharmato balavattaram
na = not; kathañcit = under any circumstances; ṛte = without; rāmāt = Rāma; bharataḥ = Bharata; rājyam āvaset = will take charge of the kingdom; rāmāt = than Rāma; api = even; hi = because; tam = that He; manye = I think; dharmataḥ = in His allegiance to dharma; balavattaram = is stronger.
Without Rāma, Bharata will not take charge of the kingdom under any circumstances because I think that He is stronger in His allegiance to dharma than even Rāma.1
1 Daśaratha is talking about the dharma of coronating the eldest son of a king as the crown prince of the kingdom. Daśaratha was right in his assessment of Bharata.
