Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.103

धिगस्तु योषितो नाम शठाः स्वार्थपरास्सदा।
न ब्रवीमि स्त्रीयः सर्वा भरतस्यैव मातरम्॥

dhig astu yoṣito nāma śaṭhāḥ svārtha-parāḥ sadā
na bravīmi striyaḥ sarvā bharatasyaiva mātaram

dhik astu = fie on; yoṣitaḥ = those women; nāma = famous; śaṭhāḥ = for being deceitful; sva-artha-parāḥ = and selfish; sadā = always; na = not; bravīmi = I am talking; striyaḥ = women; sarvāḥ = all; bharatasya = about Bharata’s; eva = only; mātaram = mother.

Fie on those women famous for being always deceitful and selfish! I am only talking about Bharata’s mother, not all women.

Deceitful women are those who have ulterior motives and do that which is displeasing. Then, considering that women like Kausalyā cannot possibly be deceitful and selfish, Daśaratha speaks the second line of the verse.
