Chapter 14: Daśaratha Grants Kaikeyī her two Boons
Text 2.14.60
सुमत्रः करुणं श्रुत्वा दृष्ट्वा दीनं च पार्थिवम्।
प्रगृहीताञ्जलिः किञ्चित्तस्माद्देशादपाक्रमत्॥
sumantraḥ karuṇaṁ śrutvā dṛṣṭvā dīnaṁ ca pārthivam
pragṛhītāñjaliḥ kiñcit tasmād deśād apākramat
sumantraḥ = Sumantra; karuṇam = these sorrowful words; śrutvā = hearing; dṛṣṭvā = observing; dīnam = to be dejected; ca = and; pārthivam = the king; pragṛhīta-añjaliḥ = with his palms joined in supplication; kiñcit = slightly; tasmāt deśāt apākramat = stepped back.
Hearing these sorrowful words and observing the king to be dejected, with his palms joined in supplication, Sumantra slightly stepped back.
