Chapter 22: Rāma Instructs Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.22.27
एभिरेव घटैः सर्वैरभिषेचनसम्भृतैः।
मम लक्ष्मण तापस्ये व्रतस्नानं भविष्यति॥
ebhir eva ghaṭaiḥ sarvair abhiṣecana-sambhṛtaiḥ
mama lakṣmaṇa tāpasye vrata-snānaṁ bhaviṣyati
ebhiḥ = these; eva = very; ghaṭaiḥ = pots; sarvaiḥ = with all; abhiṣecana-sambhṛtaiḥ = prepared for My coronation; mama = I; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; tāpasye = to prepare Myself for a life of austerity; vrata-snānam bhaviṣyati = will ceremonially bathe.
Lakṣmaṇa, I will ceremonially bathe to prepare Myself for a life of austerity with all these very pots prepared for My coronation.
After stating this, He considered that though He might bathe with the water in those pots to prepare Himself for the vow of ascetism, Kaikeyī might become apprehensive that He took His bath to take over the kingdom. In order that that not happen, He then prohibited [Himself from such a ceremonial bath] in the next verse.
