न शोभार्थाविमौ बाहू न धनुर्भूषणाय मे।
नासिराबन्धनार्थाय न शराः स्तम्भहेतवः।
अमित्रदमनार्थं मे सर्वमेतच्चतुष्टयम्॥
na śobhārthāv imau bāhū na dhanur bhūṣaṇāya me
nāsirā-bandhanārthāya na śarāḥ stambha-hetavaḥ
amitra-damanārthaṁ me sarvam etac catuṣṭayam
na = are not; śobhā-arthau = meant to beautify Me; imau = these; bāhū = arms of Mine; na = is not; dhanuḥ = My bow; bhūṣaṇāya = meant to be ornament; me = My; na = is not; asiḥ = My sword; ābandhana-arthāya = meant to be an accessory to My belt; na = are not; śarāḥ = My arrows; stambha-hetavaḥ = meant to stuff My quivers; amitra-damana-artham = to subdue Our opponents; me = I have; sarvam etat catuṣṭayam = these four kinds of weapons.
These arms of Mine are not meant to beautify Me. My bow is not meant to be My ornament. My sword is not meant to be an accessory for My royal belt. My arrows are not meant to stuff My quivers. I have these four kinds of weapons to subdue Our opponents!
Śrī Lakṣmaṇa does not want His sword to be tied around His waist as the decoration of a heroic [warrior]. Stambha-hetavaḥ also indicates that Lakṣmaṇa did not want His arrows to be pillars used as targets [in shooting practices].
