asinā tīkṣṇa-dhāreṇa vidyuc-calita-varcasā
pragṛhītena vai śatruṁ vajriṇaṁ vā na kalpaye
na ca aham kāmaye = I cannot tolerate; atyartham = a formidable; yaḥ syāt śatruḥ = the presence of anyone who might be opponent; mataḥ = considered by spectators to be; mama = of Mine; asinā = sword; tīkṣṇa-dhāreṇa = a sharp-edged; vidyut-calita-varcasā = that brilliantly sparkles like lightning; pragṛhītena vai = on the other hand, with; śatrum = to be an opponent [equal to Me in war]; vajriṇam = the thunderbolt-wielder Indra; vā na kalpaye = I don’t even consider.
I cannot tolerate the presence of anyone who is considered by the spectators to be a formidable opponent of Mine. On the other hand, with a sharp-edged sword that brilliantly sparkles like lightning, I don’t even consider the thunderbolt-wielder Indra to be an opponent [equal to Me in war].
Lakṣmaṇa didn’t even consider Indra a worthy opponent, that is, He could [easily] kill Indra [in war].
