Chapter 25: Kausalyā Invokes Auspiciousness for Rāma
Text 2.25.44

मङ्गलैरुपसम्पन्नो वनवासादिहागतः।
वध्वा मम च नित्यं त्वं कामान्संवर्ध याहि भो॥

maṅgalair upasampanno vana-vāsād ihāgataḥ
vadhvā mama ca nityaṁ tvaṁ kāmān saṁvardha yāhi bho

maṅgalaiḥ = with auspiciousness; upasampannaḥ = endowed; vana-vāsāt = from Your residence in the forest; iha āgataḥ = after returning; vadhvāḥ = my daughter-in-law; mama = me; ca = and; nityam = always; tvam = You; kāmān = with desirable objects like garments and ornaments; saṁvardha = you should enhance; yāhi bho = go.

“After returning from Your residence in the forest, endowed with auspiciousness, you should always enhance my daughter-in-law and me with desirable objects like garments and ornaments.1 Go!


 

1 This is Rāma’s dharma to His mother and wife. Queen Kausalyā indicates here that Rāma will be able to follow that dharma after He returns to Ayodhyā.
