Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.7

tām = her; dṛṣṭvā = upon seeing; saḥ hi = He; dharma-ātmā = whose mind was devoted to dharma; na śaśāka = could not; manaḥ-gatam = in His mind; tam = the; śokam = distress; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; soḍhum = suppress; tataḥ = so; vivṛtatām gataḥ = revealed His distressful condition [to her].

Upon seeing her, Rāghava whose mind was devoted to dharma, could not suppress the distress in His mind. So He revealed His distressful condition [to her].

Rāma was not even slightly in distress till now. His manifestation of distress now should be understood to be due to His consideration of her future distress [due to His absence].
