Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.8

विवर्णवदनं दृष्ट्वा तं प्रस्विन्नममर्षणम्।
आह दुःखाभिसन्तप्ता किमिदानीमिदं प्रभो॥

vivarṇa-vadanaṁ dṛṣṭvā taṁ prasvinnam amarṣaṇam
āha duḥkhābhisantaptā kim idānīm idaṁ prabho

vivarṇa-vadanam = His face to be discolored; dṛṣṭvā = observing; tam prasvinnam = and that He was perspiring; amarṣaṇam = and impatient; āha = and asked Him; duḥkha-abhisantaptā = she became anguished in distress; kim = what; idānīm = at this time of delight; idam = is this sadness; prabho = my Lord.

Observing His face to be discolored and that He was perspiring and impatient, she became anguished in distress and asked Him, “My Lord, what is this sadness at this time of delight?

Rāma perspired in sorrow while thinking, “How can I inform her that the kingdom [almost] within My reach has now gone to someone else and that I have been banished to the forest?” He was impatient, that is, unable to control the distress that arose in Him.
