Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.31
माता च मम कौसल्या वृद्धा सन्तापकर्शिता।
धर्ममेवाग्रतः कृत्वा त्वत्तः सम्मानमर्हति॥
mātā ca mama kausalyā vṛddhā santāpa-karśitā
dharmam evāgrataḥ kṛtvā tvattaḥ sammānam arhati
mātā ca = mother; mama = My; kausalyā = Queen Kausalyā; vṛddhā = is old; santāpa-karśitā = and emaciated due to agony; dharmam = dharma; eva = alone; agrataḥ kṛtvā = for she has kept in the forefront; tvattaḥ = your; sammānam = honor; arhati = she deserves.
My mother Queen Kausalyā is old and emaciated due to agony. She deserves your honor for she has kept dharma alone in the forefront.
