Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.13
शुश्रूषमाणा ते नित्यं नियता ब्रह्मचारिणी।
सह रंस्ये त्वया वीर वनेषु मधुगन्धिषु॥
śuśrūṣamāṇā te nityaṁ niyatā brahmacāriṇī
saha raṁsye tvayā vīra vaneṣu madhu-gandhiṣu
śuśrūṣamāṇā = serving; te = You; nityam = constantly; niyatā = as a regulated; brahmacāriṇī = brahmacāriṇī; saha = with; raṁsye = I will be happy; tvayā = You; vīra = O hero; vaneṣu = in the forests; madhu-gandhiṣu = that are filled with the fragrance of the honey of flowers 3.
O hero, serving You constantly as a regulated brahmacāriṇī, I will be happy with You in the forests that are filled with the fragrance of the honey of fresh flowers.
She wanted to be a regulated brahmacāriṇī. In other words, she wanted to control her senses [fully] and avoid sense enjoyment. Raṁsye indicates that Sītā-devī would be happy by seeing many things she had not seen before.
GLOSS. “In the forests” includes water bodies and gardens.
