Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.14

त्वं हि कर्तुं वने शक्तो राम सम्परिपालनम्।
अन्यस्यापि जनस्येह किं पुनर्मम मानद॥

tvaṁ hi kartuṁ vane śakto rāma samparipālanam
anyasyāpi janasyeha kiṁ punar mama mānada

tvam = You; hi = certainly; kartum1 vane = forest; śaktaḥ = can; rāma = Rāma; samparipālanam = fully protect; anyasya api janasya = others; iha = in the; kim punaḥ = what to speak of; mama = me; mānada = respectful

Respectful Rāma, You can certainly fully protect others in the forest, what to speak of me?1

GLOSS. [Mānada can also be split into nada which indicates that] Rāma should not tell her to stay in Ayodhyā.

1 Technical note: samparipālanam kartum śaktaḥ.

1 This is Sītā-devī’s lesson to all of us conditioned souls that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is fully competent to protect us from any dangers and difficulties we face if we surrender unto Him. Since she is the exemplar of full-fledged surrender unto Him, won’t she be protected?
