Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.16
फलमूलाशना नित्यं भविष्यामि न संशयः।
न ते दुःखं करिष्यामि निवसन्ती सह त्वया॥
phala-mūlāśanā nityaṁ bhaviṣyāmi na saṁśayaḥ
na te duḥkhaṁ kariṣyāmi nivasantī saha tvayā
phala-mūla-aśanā = eat fruits and roots; nityam = always; bhaviṣyāmi = I will; na saṁśayaḥ = let there be no doubt about it; na = never; te = You; duḥkham kariṣyāmi = I will give any trouble; nivasantī = while residing; saha = with; tvayā = You.
I will always eat fruits and roots. Let there be no doubt about it. While residing with You, I will never give You any trouble.
“Trouble” here means “request to provide me [special foodstuffs and liquids] for eating and drinking.”
