Chapter 32: Rāma Gives Away His Wealth Before Departing
Text 2.32.40
उवाच च ततो रामस्तं गार्ग्यमभिसान्त्वयन्। मन्युर्न खलु कर्तव्यः परिहासो ह्ययं मम॥
uvāca ca tato rāmas taṁ gārgyam abhisāntvayan manyur na khalu kartavyaḥ parihāso hy ayaṁ mama
uvāca ca = told; tataḥ = then; rāmaḥ = Rāma; tam = that; gārgyam = descendant of Garga Muni; abhisāntvayan = [the following] in consolation; manyuḥ na khalu kartavyaḥ = please don’t be angry; parihāsaḥ hi = was just for fun; ayam = this; mama = with Me.
Then Rāma told that descendant of Garga Muni [the following] in consolation: “Please don’t be angry with Me. This was just for fun.
Rāma’s request to the brāhmaṇa to throw his stick was just for fun.
