Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 33: Rāma, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa Depart to Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.33.13

तस्मात्तस्योपघातेन प्रजाः परमपीडिताः।
औदकानीव सत्त्वानि ग्रीष्मे सलिलसङ्क्षयात्॥

tasmāt tasyopaghātena prajāḥ parama-pīḍitāḥ
audakānīva sattvāni grīṣme salila-saṅkṣayāt

tasmāt = therefore; tasya upaghātena = by injuring Him; prajāḥ = the citizens; parama-pīḍitāḥ = are extremely disturbed; audakāni = aquatic; iva = like; sattvāni = creatures; grīṣme = in summer; salila-saṅkṣayāt = when the water dries up.

Therefore, by injuring Him the citizens are extremely disturbed like aquatic creatures when the water dries up in summer.

[The citizens were extremely disturbed when Rāma was injured] because He possessed the above-mentioned six good qualities.
