Chapter 35: Furious Sumantra Criticizes Kaikeyī
Text 2.35.36
इति सान्त्वैश्च तीक्ष्णैश्च कैकेयीं राजसंसदि।
सुमत्रः क्षोभयामास भूय एव कृताञ्जलिः॥
iti sāntvaiś ca tīkṣṇaiś ca kaikeyīṁ rāja-saṁsadi
sumantraḥ kṣobhayām āsa bhūya eva kṛtāñjaliḥ
iti = thus; sāntvaiḥ ca = with words that were both consoling; tīkṣṇaiḥ = sharp; ca = and; kaikeyīm = [the mind of] Kaikeyī; rāja-saṁsadi = in the royal assembly; sumantraḥ = Sumantra; kṣobhayām āsa = agitated; bhūyaḥ eva = greatly; kṛta-añjaliḥ = [and then] joined his palms in supplication.
Sumantra thus greatly agitated [the mind of] Kaikeyī in the royal assembly with words that were both consoling and sharp, [and then] joined his palms in supplication.
