Chapter 36: Kaikeyī Forbids the King from Sending Wealth With Rāma
Text 2.36.21
तानुवाच ततो राजा किंनिमित्तमिदं भयम्।
ताश्चापि राज्ञा सम्पृष्टा वाक्यं प्रकृतयोऽब्रुवन्॥
tān uvāca tato rājā kiṁ-nimittam idaṁ bhayam
tāś cāpi rājñā sampṛṣṭā vākyaṁ prakṛtayo ’bruvan
tān = them; uvāca tataḥ = asked; rājā = the king; kim-nimittam = why; idam bhayam = are you afraid; tāḥ ca api = the; rājñā = by the king; sampṛṣṭāḥ = upon being questioned; vākyam = the following words; prakṛtayaḥ = citizens; abruvan = spoke.
The king asked them, “Why are you afraid?” Upon being questioned by the king, the citizens spoke the following words.
