Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.28
एवं वदन्तस्ते सोढुं न शेकुर्बाष्पमागतम्।
नरास्तमनुगच्छन्तः प्रियमिक्ष्वाकुनन्दनम्॥
evaṁ vadantas te soḍhuṁ na śekur bāṣpam āgatam
narās tam anugacchantaḥ priyam ikṣvāku-nandanam
evam = thus; vadantaḥ = and while speaking; te = the; soḍhum = control; na śekuḥ = could not; bāṣpam āgatam = their tears; narāḥ = men; tam = the; anugacchantaḥ = while following; priyam = beloved; ikṣvāku-nandanam = son of the Ikṣvākus.
While following the beloved son of the Ikṣvākus and while speaking thus, the men could not control their tears.
