Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.35

रुदिताशुपरिद्यूनं हाहाकृतमचेतनम्।
प्रयाणे राघवस्यासीत्पुरं परमपीडितम्॥

ruditāśru-paridyūnaṁ hā-hā-kṛtam acetanam
prayāṇe rāghavasyāsīt puraṁ parama-pīḍitam

rudita-aśru-paridyūnam = became devoid of enthusiasm because of their lamentation and tears; --kṛtam = the city was filled with cries of, “alas, alas”; acetanam = senseless; prayāṇe = when Rāma departed; rāghavasya = Daśaratha’s; āsīt = it became; puram = the residents of city; parama-pīḍitam = and severely tormented [in distress].

When Rāma departed, the residents of Daśaratha’s city became devoid of enthusiasm because of their lamentation and tears. The city was filled with cries of, “Alas! Alas!” It became senseless and severely tormented [in distress].
