Chapter 40: Rāma Departs from Ayodhyā
Text 2.40.36
सुस्राव नयनैः स्त्रीणामास्रमायाससम्भवम्।
मीनसङ्क्षोभचलितैः सलिलं पङ्कजैरिव॥
susrāva nayanaiḥ strīṇām āsram āyāsa-sambhavam
mīna-saṅkṣobha-calitaiḥ salilaṁ paṅkajair iva
susrāva = flowed; nayanaiḥ = from the eyes; strīṇām = of women; āsram = tears; āyāsa-sambhavam = of exhaustion; mīna-saṅkṣobha-calitaiḥ = when fish swarm around them and agitate them; salilam = the honey; paṅkajaiḥ = of lotuses; iva = like.
Tears of exhaustion flowed from the eyes of women like the honey of lotuses when fish swarm around them and agitate them.1
