Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 45: The Brāhmaṇas from Ayodhyā Follow Rāma
Text 2.45.27

याचितो नो निवर्तस्व हंसशुक्लशिरोरुहैः।
शिरोभिर्निभृताचार महीपतनपांसुलैः॥

yācito no nivartasva haṁsa-śukla-śiroruhaiḥ
śirobhir nibhṛtācāra mahī-patana-pāṁsulaiḥ

yācitaḥ = bow down to You; naḥ = we; nivartasva = stop; haṁsa-śukla-śiroruhaiḥ = filled with swan white hairs; śirobhiḥ = with our heads; nibhṛta-ācāra = Rāma, You execute dharma unflinchingly; mahī-patana-pāṁsulaiḥ = that have become dusty because of us falling on the ground.

Rāma, You execute dharma unflinchingly.1 With our heads filled with swan white hairs that have become dusty because of us falling on the ground, we bow down to You. Stop!

Though these twice-born were old by knowledge, age and austerity, they endeavored to stop Rāma by even offering Him eightfold obeisances [simply] because they were unable to tolerate being separated from Him. These old brāhmaṇas offered obeisances unto this kṣatriya boy because they knew that He is the Supreme Godhead.

1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: he nibhṛtācāra he niścala-dharmānuṣṭhāna.
