Chapter 49: Rāma Continues on Towards the Forest
Text 2.49.5
हा नृशंसाद्य कैकेयी पापा पापानुबन्धिनी।
तीक्ष्णा सम्भिन्नमर्यादा तीक्ष्णकर्मणि वर्तते॥
hā nṛśaṁsādya kaikeyī pāpā pāpānubandhinī
tīkṣṇā sambhinna-maryādā tīkṣṇa-karmaṇi vartate
hā = alas; nṛśaṁsā = is wicked [indeed]; adya = now; kaikeyī = Kaikeyī; pāpā = whose nature is sinful; pāpa-anubandhinī = and who uninterruptedly engages in sins; tīkṣṇā = that woman of cruel nature; sambhinna-maryādā = has broken her code of conduct; tīkṣṇa-karmaṇi = in cruel activities; vartate = and is engaged.
Alas, now Kaikeyī, whose nature is sinful and who uninterruptedly engages in sins, is wicked [indeed]! That woman of cruel nature has broken her code of conduct and is engaged in cruel activities.
