Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā

कालिन्दीमथ सीता तु याचमाना कृताञ्जलिः।
तीरमेवाभिसंप्राप्ता दक्षिणं वरवर्णिनी॥
kālindīm atha sītā tu yācamānā kṛtāñjaliḥ
tīram evābhisamprāptā dakṣiṇaṁ vara-varṇinī
kālindīm = Kālindī; atha = thus; sītā tu = Sītā-devī; yācamānā = while beseeching; kṛta-añjaliḥ = with her palms joined in supplication; tīram eva = bank [of the river]; abhisamprāptā = reached; dakṣiṇam = the southern; vara-varṇinī = of lustrous golden complexion.
While beseeching Kālindī thus with her palms joined in supplication, Sītā-devī of lustrous golden complexion reached the southern bank [of the river].
