Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā

Text 2.55.22

ततः प्लवेनांशुमतीं शीघ्रगामूर्मिमालिनीम्।
तीरजैर्बहुभिर्वृक्षैः संतेरुर्यमुनां नदीम्॥

tataḥ plavenāṁśumatīṁ śīghragām ūrmi-mālinīm
tīrajair bahubhir vṛkṣaiḥ santerur yamunāṁ nadīm

tataḥ = then; plavena aṁśumatīm = the daughter of Sūrya; śīghragām = rapid; ūrmi-mālinīm = filled with several waves; tīrajaiḥ = growing on her banks; bahubhiḥ = and she was surrounded by many; vṛkṣaiḥ = trees; santeruḥ = they [fully] crossed over; yamunām = the Yamunā; nadīm = the river was.

Then they [fully] crossed over the Yamunā, the daughter of Sūrya, with the raft. The rapid river was filled with several waves and she was surrounded by many trees growing on her banks.
