Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā

ते तीर्णाः प्लवमुत्सृज्य प्रस्थाय यमुनावनात्।
श्यामं न्यग्रोधमासेदुः शीतलं हरितच्छदम्॥
te tīrṇāḥ plavam utsṛjya prasthāya yamunā-vanāt
śyāmaṁ nyagrodham āseduḥ śītalaṁ harita-cchadam
te = they; tīrṇāḥ = after crossing; plavam = the raft; utsṛjya = got off; prasthāya = and departed; yamunā-vanāt = from the forest on the bank of Yamunā; śyāmam = and dark; nyagrodham = banyan tree; āseduḥ = they then reached; śītalam = the cool; harita-chadam = with green leaves.
After crossing, they got off the raft and departed from the forest on the bank of the Yamunā. Then they reached the cool and dark banyan tree with green leaves.
