Chapter 55: Rāma Leaves Bharadvāja’s Āśrama and Crosses the Yamunā

विचित्रवालुकजलां हंससारसनादिताम्।
रेमे जनकराजस्य तदा प्रेक्ष्य सुता नदीम्॥
vicitra-vāluka-jalāṁ haṁsa-sārasa-nāditām
reme janaka-rājasya tadā prekṣya sutā nadīm
vicitra-vāluka-jalām = whose water was filled with varieties of sand; haṁsa-sārasa-nāditām = and which was filled with the sounds of the haṁsa and sārasa swans; reme = was happy; janaka-rājasya = King Janaka’s; tadā prekṣya = upon seeing; sutā = daughter; nadīm = the river.
King Janaka’s daughter was happy upon seeing the river whose water was filled with varieties of sand and which was filled with the sounds of the haṁsa and sārasa swans.
This river is the Yamunā. They were able to see it after walking a long distance to the bank of the river.
