Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 61: Kausalyā Condemns Daśaratha in Extreme Distress
Text 2.61.18

तथा ह्यात्तमिदं राज्यं हृतसारां सुरामिव।
नाभिमन्तुमलं रामो नष्टसोममिवाध्वरम्॥

tathā hy āttam idaṁ rājyaṁ hṛta-sārāṁ surām iva
nābhimantum alaṁ rāmo naṣṭa-somam ivādhvaram

tathā hi = similarly; āttam = after it is enjoyed [by someone else]; idam = this; rājyam = kingdom; hṛta-sārām = whose essence has been taken away; surām = wine; iva = would like; na abhimantum  alam = will be unable to desire; rāmaḥ = Rāma; naṣṭa-somam = in which someone else has drunk the soma; iva = like; adhvaram = a fire sacrifice.

Similarly this kingdom would be like wine whose essence has been taken away, like a fire sacrifice in which someone else has drunk the soma. Rāma will be unable to desire this kingdom after it is enjoyed [by someone else].1

1 As we will notice in this very Canto, Bharata will refuse to take charge of the kingdom as its king even for a while.
