Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 61: Kausalyā Condemns Daśaratha in Extreme Distress
Text 2.61.28

हतं त्वया राज्यमिदं सराष्ट्रं हतस्तथात्मा सह मन्त्रिभिश्च।
हता सपुत्रास्मि हताश्च पौराः सुतश्च भार्या च तव प्रहृष्टौ॥

hataṁ tvayā rājyam idaṁ sarāṣṭraṁ
hatas tathātmā saha mantribhiś ca

hatā saputrāsmi hatāś ca paurāḥ
sutaś ca bhāryā ca tava prahṛṣṭau

hatam = destroyed; tvayā = you have; rājyam = kingdom of Kosala; idam = this; sarāṣṭram hataḥ = the countries ruled by your friends; tathā = and; ātmā = you have destroyed yourself; saha mantribhiḥ = your ministers; ca = and; hatā = you have destroyed; saputrā asmi = me and my son; hatāḥ ca = you have destroyed; paurāḥ = the citizens; sutaḥ ca = [but] your son Bharata; bhāryā = wife Kaikeyī; ca = and; tava = your; prahṛṣṭau = are delighted.

You have destroyed this kingdom of Kosala and the countries ruled by your friends. You have destroyed yourself and your ministers. You have destroyed me and my son. You have destroyed the citizens. [But] Your son Bharata and your wife Kaikeyī are delighted!

Queen Kausalyā now points out that Daśaratha didn’t destroy only her. She refers to Bharata as Daśaratha’s son because he only considered Him as his son [for all practical purposes] and Kaikeyī as Daśaratha’s wife because he carried out her words.
