Chapter 62: Kausalyā Pacifies Daśaratha
Text 2.62.6
दह्यमानः स शोकाभ्यां कौसल्यामाह भूपतिः।
वेपमानोऽञ्जलिं कृत्वा प्रसादार्थमवाङ्मुखः॥
dahyamānaḥ sa śokābhyāṁ kausalyām āha bhū-patiḥ
vepamāno ’ñjaliṁ kṛtvā prasādārtham avāṅ-mukhaḥ
dahyamānaḥ = burning; saḥ = the; śokābhyām = because of these two desires; kausalyām = to Kausalyā; āha = and spoke; bhū-patiḥ = king; vepamānaḥ = trembling; añjalim kṛtvā = joined his palms in supplication; prasāda-artham = to appease her; avāk-mukhaḥ = lowered his head.
Burning because of these two distresses, the trembling king lowered his head, joined his palms in supplication and spoke to Kausalyā to appease her.
King Daśaratha lowered his head out of shame and fear for having displeased Kausalyā.
