Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son

तं देशमहमागम्य दीनसत्वः सुदुर्मनाः।
अपश्यमिषुणा तीरे सरय्वास्तापसं हतम्॥
taṁ deśam aham āgamya dīna-sattvaḥ sudurmanāḥ
paśyam iṣuṇā tīre sarayvās tāpasaṁ hatam
tam = to that; deśam = spot; aham = I; āgamya = came; dīna-sattvaḥ = with a dejected heart; sudurmanāḥ = my mind was extremely distressed; apaśyam = I saw; iṣuṇā = by [my] arrow; tīre = on the bank; sarayvāḥ = of Sarayū; tāpasam = an ascetic; hatam = pierced.
I came to that spot with a dejected heart. My mind was extremely distressed. I saw on the bank of Sarayū an ascetic pierced by [my] arrow.
