Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son
Text 2.63.39

स मामुद्वीक्ष्य नेत्राभ्यां त्रस्तमस्वस्थचेतसम्।
इत्युवाच ततः क्रूरं दिधक्षन्निव तेजसा॥

sa mām udvīkṣya netrābhyāṁ trastam asvastha-cetasam
ity uvāca tataḥ krūraṁ didhakṣann iva tejasā

saḥ = he; mām = at me; udvīkṣya = looked up; netrābhyām = with his eyes [wide open]; trastam = I was terrified; asvastha-cetasam = and my mind was overwhelmed; iti uvāca = he spoke the following; tataḥ = then; krūram = terrible words; didhakṣan = desiring to burn me up; iva = as if; tejasā = with his prowess.

He looked up at me with his eyes [wide open]. I was terrified and my mind was overwhelmed. He then spoke the following terrible words as if desiring to burn me up with his prowess.
