Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son
Text 2.63.40

किं तवापकृतं राजन्वने निवसता मया।
जिहीर्षुरम्भो गुर्वर्थं यदहं ताडितस्त्वया॥

kim tavāpakṛtaṁ rājan vane nivasatā mayā
jihīrṣur ambho gurv-arthaṁ yad ahaṁ tāḍitas tvayā

kim = what; tava = to you; apakṛtam = wrong have I done; rājan = O king; vane = in the forest; nivasatā = reside; mayā = I; jihīrṣuḥ = I wanted to take; ambhaḥ = water; guru-artham = for my elderly parents; yat = that; aham = me; tāḍitaḥ = have attacked; tvayā = and you.

O king, what wrong have I done to you that you have attacked me? I reside in the forest and wanted to take water for my elderly parents.
