saśalyaḥ kliśyate prāṇair viśalyo vinaśiṣyati
iti mām aviśac cintā tasya śalyāpakarṣaṇe
saśalyaḥ = with the arrow in his body; kliśyate = in a state of suffering; prāṇaiḥ = he is alive [but]; viśalyaḥ = without the arrow; vinaśiṣyati iti = he will [certainly] perish; mām = me; aviśat = entered; cintā = the following thought; tasya = of his body; śalya-apakarṣaṇe = about taking the weapon out.
The following thought entered me about taking the weapon out of his body: “With the arrow in his body, he is alive [but] in a state of suffering. Without the arrow, he will [certainly] perish.”
