Chapter 65: Daśaratha’s Wives Lament About his Departure
Text 2.65.6
व्याहृताः पुण्यशब्दाश्च वीणानां चापि निःस्वनाः।
आशीर्गेयं च गाथानां पूरयामास वेश्म तत्॥
vyāhṛtāḥ puṇya-śabdāś ca vīṇānāṁ cāpi niḥsvanāḥ
āśīr geyaṁ ca gāthānāṁ pūrayām āsa veśma tat
vyāhṛtāḥ = uttered by brāhmaṇas; puṇya-śabdāḥ ca = pious sounds; vīṇānām ca api = of vīṇās; niḥsvanāḥ = the sounds; āśīḥ-geyam ca gāthānām = and songs offering blessings upon the king; pūrayām āsa = filled; veśma = residence; tat = that.
Pious sounds uttered by brāhmaṇas, the sounds of vīṇās and songs offering blessings upon the king filled that residence.
Puṇya-śabdāḥ refers to sounds glorifying pious persons, holy places and so on.
