Chapter 65: Daśaratha’s Wives Lament About his Departure
Text 2.65.13
तथाप्युचितवृत्तास्ता विनयेन नयेन च।
न ह्यस्य शयनं स्पृष्ट्वा किंचिदप्युपलेभिरे॥
tathāpy ucita-vṛttās tā vinayena nayena ca
na hy asya śayanaṁ spṛṣṭvā kiñcid apy upalebhire
tathā api = despite; ucita-vṛttāḥ = appropriate activities; tāḥ = these; vinayena = carried out by humility; nayena = reason; ca = and; na hi = not; asya śayanam = symptom of his sleep; spṛṣṭvā = when they touched him who was lying there; kiñcit api = any; upalebhire = they could detect.
Despite these appropriate activities carried out with humility and reason, when they touched him who was lying there, they could not detect any symptom of his sleep.
The appropriate activity refers touching him and so on. They could not detect any symptom of his sleep, that is, they could not detect any breathing in his body.
