ताः स्त्रियः स्वप्नशीलज्ञाश्चेष्टासञ्चचलनादिषु।
ता वेपथुपरीताश्च राज्ञः प्राणेषु शङ्किताः।
प्रतिस्रोतस्तृणाग्राणां सदृशं संचकाशिरे॥
tāḥ striyaḥ svapna-śīlajñāś ceṣṭā-sañcalanādiṣu
tā vepathu-parītāś ca rājñaḥ prāṇeṣu śaṅkitāḥ
pratisrotas-trṇāgrāṇāṁ sadṛśaṁ sañcakāśire
tāḥ = those; striyaḥ = women; svapna-śīlajñāḥ = knew the symptoms of a sleeping person [and did not detect any]; ceṣṭā-sañcalana-ādiṣu = external or internal bodily movement; tāḥ = they; vepathu-parītāḥ = trembled; ca = and; rājñaḥ = of the king; prāṇeṣu = of [the loss of] the life; śaṅkitāḥ = in fear; pratisrotaḥ-trṇa-agrāṇām = the edges of the vetasa grass [on the bank of river] swayed by the current of a river; sadṛśam = like; sañcakāśire = looked.
Those women knew the symptoms of a sleeping person [and did not detect any] external or internal bodily movement. They trembled in fear of [the loss of] the life of the king and looked like the edges of the vetasa grass [on the bank of river] swayed by the current of a river.
This elaborates on what was stated in the previous verse. They could not detect any movement in his hands, feet or so on. They could not detect his heartbeat, breathing and so on.
