न व्यराजत कौसल्या तारेव तिमिरावृता॥
niṣprabhā ca vivarṇā ca sannā śokena sannatā
na vyarājata kausalyā tāreva timirāvṛtā
niṣprabhā ca = had lost her luster; vivarṇā ca = she was now dicolored; sannā = and emaciated; śokena = by distress; sannatā = she had bent her thin body; na vyarājata = she did not shine [anymore]; kausalyā = Kausalyā; tārā iva = like a star; timira-āvṛtā = covered by smoke at the time of a disaster.
Kausalyā had lost her luster. She was now discolored and emaciated by distress. [In her sleep,] she had bent her thin body like a star covered by smoke at the time of a disaster. She did not shine [anymore].
