Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 65: Daśaratha’s Wives Lament About his Departure
Text 2.65.24

नृपे शान्तगुणे जाते कौसल्यां पतितां भुवि।
अपश्यंस्ताः स्त्रियः सर्वा हतां नागवधूमिव॥

nṛpe śānta-guṇe jāte kausalyāṁ patitāṁ bhuvi
apaśyaṁs tāḥ striyaḥ sarvā hatāṁ nāga-vadhūm iva

nṛpe = when the king’s body; śānta-guṇe jāte = had become devoid of heat and movement; kausalyām = Kausalyā; patitām = had fallen; bhuvi = on the ground; apaśyan = saw that; tāḥ striyaḥ = the women; sarvāḥ = all; hatām = a slain; nāga-vadhūm = female mate of an elephant; iva = like.

All the women saw that when the king’s body had become devoid of heat and movement, Kausalyā had fallen on the ground like a slain female mate of an elephant.
