Chapter 66: Daśaratha’s Ministers Preserve his Body
Text 2.66.8
स मामनाथां विधवां नाद्य जानाति धार्मिकः।
रामः कमलपत्राक्षो जीवनाशमितो गतः॥
sa mām anāthāṁ vidhavāṁ nādya jānāti dhārmikaḥ
rāmaḥ kamala-patrākṣo jīva-nāśam ito gataḥ
saḥ1 mām = [and that] I am; anāthām = an unprotected; vidhavām = widow; na = not; adya = now; jānāti = knowing that; dhārmikaḥ = dhārmika; rāmaḥ = Rāma; kamala-patra-akṣaḥ = whose eyes are as beautiful as lotus leaves; jīva-nāśam = the king’s life has been destroyed; itaḥ = here; gataḥ = has gone.
Dhārmika Rāma whose eyes are as beautiful as lotus leaves has gone, not knowing that the king’s life has been destroyed here and that I am now an unprotected widow.1
