ते हस्तिनपुरे गङ्गां तीर्त्वा प्रत्युङ्मुखा ययुः।
पाञ्चालदेशमासाद्य मध्येन कुरुजाङ्गलम्॥
सरांसि च सुपूर्णानि नदीश्च विमलोदकाः।
निरीक्षमाणास्ते जग्मुर्दूताः कार्यवशाद्द्रुतम्॥
te hastinapure gaṅgāṁ tīrtvā pratyaṅmukhā yayuḥ
pāñcāla-deśam āsādya madhyena kuru-jāṅgalam
sarāṁsi ca supūrṇāni nadīś ca vimalodakāḥ
nirīkṣamāṇās te jagmur dūtāḥ kārya-vaśād drutam
te = they; hastinapure = at Hastinapura; gaṅgām = Gaṅgā; tīrtvā = crossed; pratyak-mukhāḥ = towards the west; yayuḥ = and went; pāñcāla-deśam = Pāñcāladeśa; āsādya = having reached; madhyena = through; kuru-jāṅgalam = Kurujāṅgala; sarāṁsi ca = at lakes; supūrṇāni = filled upto their brim; nadīḥ = rivers; ca = and; vimala-udakāḥ = with clear water; nirīkṣamāṇāḥ = looking [all the] while; te = the; jagmuḥ = went; dūtāḥ = messengers; kārya-vaśāt = ahead on account of their work; drutam = quickly.
They crossed Gaṅgā at Hastinapura and went towards the west. Having reached Pāñcāladeśa through Kurujāṅgala, the messengers quickly went ahead on account of their work, looking [all the] while at lakes filled upto their brim and rivers with clear water.
